Pirelli MX Nationals regulars Jy Roberts (Husqvarna) and Morgan Fogarty (KTM) have scored wildcard entries for the MXGP of Asia, slated to take place at Semarang in Indonesia on 8 July.

The Indonesian stops of the MXGP World Championship have granted a number of Australians opportunities to race on the world stage in recent years, with Roberts and Fogarty grasping at the chance to contend the MX2 category in under two weeks time.

Roberts, who’s coming off a thrilling maiden MX2 podium and race win at Murray Bridge’s fifth round of the MX Nationals, says he anticipating the grand prix to be a whole new experience as he lines up alongside his idols, revealing he’s hopeful of a top 10 finish that could potentially fast track his career internationally.

“I’m definitely stoked to be doing it – it’s going to be a whole new experience,” Roberts explained to MotoOnline.com.au. “I’ve never raced out of country, so it should be a good experience and hopefully I can learn a lot and bring it back over here.

“I’m a big fan of all the people I’ll be racing, so I’m stoked to go over and race all the riders I’ve looked up to. It will be good to see where I stand and see what I need to work on, although I’m not going over there and being over confident. I’d like to try and top 10 – I think that’s reasonable – and if I get that, hopefully it leads to some bigger things in the future.

“It’s good to have some Aussies head over there, I raced Morgan last year and he’s a good rider – he knows what he’s doing. Hopefully we both go good in the class.”

Roberts and Fogarty, who contest the MX2 and MXD class respectively in Australia, will race this weekend’s sixth round of the domestic series at Conondale in Queensland before flying out to the Indonesian venue. The duo will be joined by Indonesian motocross regular and Australian Lewis Stewart (Husqvarna), who’s earned wildcards for both Indonesian grand prix in the premier class.
