Yamaha riders reigned supreme at the prestigious Manjimup 15000 motocross event held last weekend in Western Australia with CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Teamster, Dean Ferris, claiming his first King of Manjimup crown, while WA local Mat Fabry took the win in the 250cc division.

Ferris, making his first trip over specifically for the biggest motocross event on the WA calendar, turned it on for the big Manjimup crowd and showed why he currently is the best in the business in Australian motocross.

The gruelling All-Stars class sees the riders do battle over four six lap races and are just all out sprints on one of Australia’s fastest and most challenging tracks. Ferris claimed the win with his outstanding 1-2-1-1 results in a star studded field and become the first Yamaha rider since 2011 to win the Manjimup 15,000 event.

On top of that, Ferris also took the win in the Eliminator event that saw a field of 18 riders take off for a one lap dash, with the bottom half of the field being eliminated each time. Ferris kept his nose clean at the front of the field each time and when the final three riders lined up for the winner take all, one lap sprint, he pumped out a 1.43 in his fastest racing lap of the day to take the win and make it a double victory for him and his CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team.

“It was my first time to Manjimup and it was awesome,” Ferris beamed after the event. “I had heard good things about it as Dacka and a few of the other Yamaha people had raced here before but it more than lived up to its reputation. The track is so good to ride and the people and atmosphere made it a cool event. I’m so glad I came.

“On the track it was just like another national with Kirk and we raced together pretty much all weekend. We have a great rivalry going and I’m glad he and I were able to put on some good racing for the big crowd that turned up.

“Thank you to Ollie, Peter and everyone at Yamaha WA for looking after me and also my team CDR Yamaha Monster Energy who continue to step up and make things happen for me. If my schedule allows, I would love to come back and race Manjimup again,” Ferris ends.

The 250cc class was also Yamaha’s with WA local boy, Mat Fabry getting the win on his YZ250F, just a few points clear of Bailey Malkiewicz. Fabry, the 2015 Australian Junior Champion, showed he knows the fast way around the Manjimup circuit and was the first 250cc bike home in the All Stars event, finishing well inside the top 10 among the more powerful 450cc machines.

Just behind him was Bailey Malkiewicz who contested the event with the help of Cully’s Yamaha. It was also the first time for Malkiewicz at this event and he grabbed a last-minute opportunity to race at the event when Cully’s Yamaha reached out to the current MXD points leader.
