Two-time Australian motocross champion Dean Ferris (CDR Yamaha Monster Energy Team) has claimed victory at yesterday’s prestigious Manjimup 15,000 in Western Australia, his first time racing at the popular Cosy Creek venue.

Ferris won three of the four sprint-format motos, along with the midday shootout, denying Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team) of becoming the most winningest rider at the event for at least another year.

Gibbs displayed incredible pace, comfortably defeating Ferris for the top spot in race two, however he was unable to return to P1 in the remaining motos and was ultimately awarded the runner-up spot.

Local favourite Kyle Webster (Penrite CRF Honda Racing) stepped up to a CRF450R for Manjimup, charging to third overall with 3-3-6-4 race results.

Defending Australian MX2 champion Egan Mastin (KTM Motocross Racing Team) also opted for 450 machinery along with Western Australian Jayden Rykers (Raceline Pirelli KTM), the duo winding up fourth and fifth respectively.

In MX2, which was run with the all-in Allstars category however scored separately, saw Mat Fabry (Yamaha) edge out current MXD points leader Bailey Malkiewicz (Bulk Nutrients WBR Yamaha) for top honours, as Jayden Fabry (Yamaha) defeated Junior Slegers (KTM) and Charlie Creech (Honda) for the final spot on the podium.

The Cosy Creek circuit was also host to round one of the Australian Women’s championship and Australian Vet’s title. Kawasaki’s Megan Rutledge claimed the overall win in the fiercely competitive Women’s class, beating home Maddy Jones (Yamaha) and local West Aussie Jess Moore (KTM), who completed the weekend with a race win to her name.

In the Master’s division, multi-time Australian champion Craig Anderson (Honda) topped James Craig (Kawasaki) and Christian Horwood (Husqvarna), while the Veteran’s class was taken out by Stevie Heilers (KTM) ahead of Australian superbike regular Bryan Staring (Kawasaki) and Steve Powell (KTM).
