MX2 championship contender Aaron Tanti acknowledges he needs greater consistency if he wants to seriously challenge for the title after lodging a mixed 10-5 scorecard at Murray Bridge’s fifth round of the Pirelli MX Nationals yesterday, crediting him eighth overall.

Since claiming an incredible victory at the opening round, the talented Complete Parts Kawasaki Racing rider is yet to return to the podium despite putting in a number impressive performances, with inconsistent race results between the positive outings ultimately denying him of the opportunity.

“It was an up and down weekend,” Tanti admitted. “The first moto wasn’t really what I wanted, I had a poor start and ended up getting caught with some riders and went down. I got a better start in the second moto, but I had to fight my way back to fifth.

“I need consistent motos, I can’t be doing these races where I have one good and one bad moto, however the points are tight between second to fourth so it’s going to be a fight for the championship all the way until the end of the season.”

Tanti is currently positioned fourth in the championship standings, 12 points shy of runner-up Hamish Harwood (Davey Motorsport KTM) and 43 points behind red-plate holder Wilson Todd (Serco Yamaha). The MX Nationals now heads into a month-long break, returning to action on 1 July at Conondale in Queensland.
