Team Honda 114 Motorsports’ Hunter Lawrence crashed out of contention on return to the MX2 World Championship in Latvia, prematurely halting his weekend.

Lawrence starred on his way to third in the qualification heat on Saturday, however he knocked his head in an incident while running fourth in the opening MX2 bout.

“After a consistent qualification race yesterday, Hunter Lawrence will unfortunately go back home without points this weekend,” an announcement from Team Honda 114 Motorsports stated.

“He was in fourth place in first moto, but lost the front and landed pretty hard on his head after a step-up. He is okay, but to not take any risks he won’t start in second moto. Let’s keep being positive and focus on next GP in Germany.”

It’s been a difficult few rounds for Lawrence, injuring his hand at Trentino and then missing the Portuguese and Russian rounds of the championship. Kegums marked his return to competition, only to be cut short during moto one.
