A pair of themed rounds will take place in the 2018 Pirelli MX Nationals, with the Retro and Pink Ribbon rounds formally announced by Williams Event Management (WEM) this morning.

Introduced in 2016 and continuing last year, the themed rounds will feature at rounds seven and eight on Retro weekend in Newcastle, with the Pink Ribbon event remaining part of Coolum’s finals.

“Every year we aim to incorporate themed rounds into the series,” commented WEM’s Kevin Williams. “Fans simply love seeing something a bit different to what they’re used to and quite often it’s all for a fantastic cause.

“The retro round is a lot of fun because it allows us all to reminisce on what were some wonderful racing years of the past and since we have held retro rounds, we’ve seen some great throwbacks which I’m sure we’ll see this year too.

“The Pink Ribbon round is really about giving back and doing something special for the wider community. We have a unique platform with the Pirelli MX Nationals where we can raise awareness and gain significant media exposure, so I hope we can do that again in 2018.”

The closing round of the nationals will not only be dedicated to crowning champions, but to the National Breast Cancer Foundation for the official Pink Ribbon round. Competitors will have the opportunity to turn their bikes and gear pink in a bid to raise funds for the cause.
