New Zealand ace Kayne Lamont will make a full-time return to the Pirelli MX Nationals with the SB Motorsports team, where he’s set to pilot a Yamaha YZ450F in the premier category.

Lamont, who rides under the JCR Yamaha outfit at home, currently sits second in the New Zealand Motocross Championship ahead of this weekend’s finale, where he trails Australian Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team) by six points.

The 24-year-old has endured mixed experiences in Australia, claiming the 2012 MXD (Under 19s) crown before completing a rough rookie campaign in MX2 the following year.

In 2014, Lamont came out firing in the domestic championship, leading the series in the opening portion of the year before injuries derailed his campaign.

The Yamaha rider’s most recent appearance in Australia was at Toowoomba and Coolum’s ninth and 10th rounds of the MX Nationals series in 2017, where he placed 12th and 30th overall respectively.

Lamont will be joined Josh Brewster under the awning of the newly-formed SB Motorsports team, who is due to contest the MXD division. The first round of the series is scheduled for 15 April at Newry in Victoria.
