Tasmanian Matthew Phillips says he endured one of the hardest days of his career on the opening day of Finland’s first 2018 Maxxis EnduroGP World Championship round, although he was able to bounce back on day two for third in the E2 category.

Racing in snow and minimal temperatures, Phillips suffered significant energy loss during Saturday’s instalment, ruling him out of the days racing despite his best efforts.

He was able to return on day two, pushing through the adversity of day one to claim a podium in his class and secure 14th in the combined EnduroGP division.

“I had one of the hardest days of my career yesterday,” Phillips reflected. “I got really cold in the morning and it drained all my energy. Today, I am a lot happier, even if I didn’t have the best settings for this race as and when we found terrain where I felt more comfortable. I’m already looking forward to Spain.”

The next round of the EnduroGP series is scheduled for 27-29 April in Spain, which will see more traditional conditions suited the Sherco Factory Racing rider.
