A bout of untimely food poisoning held Australia’s Hayden Mellross back in the San Diego round of 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, still racing to 12th on the night.

The 51Fifty Energy Drink Yamaha racer transferred to the main event after taking a controlled with in the LCQ and he carried that form into the final.

“I did the best I could tonight and that’s all I can really ask for,” Mellross commented. “This food poisoning has been kicking my butt all day and my usual race-day energy just wasn’t where it needed to be.

“I rode smart and consistent and worked my way up. I’m excited for the break so I can rest up and come out swinging for the home stretch of the series.”

With the 250SX West series breaking up following round six, Mellross enters the break 10th in the championship standings with an average finishing position of 11.8 in the opening part of the season.
