Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Eli Tomac has declared that he is doing all he can to be fit to start Saturday night’s third round of 2018 Monster Energy AMA Supercross, focused on lodging his first points of the year.

The pre-season title favourite has endured a disastrous start to the new year after injuring his shoulder – the extent of those injuries not certain – at Anaheim 1 and being unable to line up at Houston.

“We did everything we could this week to work through the injury, but I didn’t feel right on the bike and I wasn’t able to ride at race-speed,” said Tomac. “We have to think about the rest of the season, so we’re going to take it day-by-day and focus on getting healthy for Anaheim 2.”

Following his DNF at the opening round and after pulling out of Texas following timed qualifying in which he was only 40th overall, Tomac is a full 49 points behind current championship leader Jason Anderson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) with 15 rounds remaining.
