The Australian Supercross Championship has taken a hit to its SX1 and SX2 fields ahead of this weekend’s finale after a number of riders have sustained injuries in previous weeks, particularly over the weekend at Sydney’s Monster Energy AUS-X Open.

Serco Yamaha’s Mitch Evans and Bulk Nutrients WBR Yamaha’s Aaron Tanti will both be absent after their horrific crash together during Saturday’s SX2 heat race, as the pair are both recovering from multiple injuries.

Crankt Protein Honda Racing’s Luke Clout announced his exit from the series early Sunday morning, citing a finger injury and other on going issues which made him decide to call it a year with two rounds remaining at that point.

There will also be the absence of Gavin Faith with a wrist injury, although he has since been replaced by fellow American Chris Blose (Penrite Honda Racing), while there’s Yamaha privateer Cheyne Boyd, who suffered a shoulder injury while training in between the Bacchus Marsh and Virginia rounds.

Western Australian Kyle Webster (Penrite CRF Honda Racing) is another SX2 rider on the sidelines with a back injury, as Nick Sutherland (Penrite CRF Honda Racing) has been his replacement since the South Australian stop of the series.

Riders still evaluating their condition ahead of the weekend include Jesse Dobson (Penrite Honda Racing) with a hand injury, Luke Wilson (Wilson Coolair Motul Suzuki Factory Racing) with a wrist injury, Egan Mastin (KTM Motocross Racing Team) who’s recovering from a concussion and Hayden Mellross (DPH Motorsport Yamaha) who’s been sidelined with internal injuries since round two.

SX2 contender Dylan Wills (Dyson Motorsport Husqvarna) has confirmed he’ll push through with a broken hand in order to finish off the series, where he currently sits fourth in the standings and remains in the frame for a series podium.

Jimboomba X Stadium, the venue of the opening round in September, will host the final stop of the six-round championship this Saturday night with an all-new track layout to close out the series in Queensland.
