Multi-time world champion Matthew Phillips wrapped up his final campaign in the EnduroGP World Championship over the weekend in Germany, earning himself fourth in the series’ overall standings.

Phillips, who announced he would retire from EnduroGP racing at the conclusion of the 2017 season, lodged a pair of fourth place results at the Zschopau finale, resulting in him falling seven points shy of a championship podium.

The Tasmanian-native was eager to go out on a high and claim victory, although with that result no coming to fruition, combined with fourth overall, the CH Racing Sherco rider said he’s a little disappointed.

“I just missed that feeling again, it’s a pity,” Phillips reflected. “The season is done and dusted. Fourth overall in the championship – I’m a little disappointed with the result as a season, it definitely could have been better but that’s how it goes sometimes. A big thanks to the team for a huge effort, always. And thanks to the fans and family over the weekend.”

After five seasons on the world stage, Phillips will now return home to Australia, however his racing plans for 2018 are yet to be revealed.
