Dual Australian motocross champion Dean Ferris believes the Matterley Basin circuit that is set to host the 2017 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations (MXoN) this weekend will play into the hands of fellow Team Australia members Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team) and Hunter Lawrence (Suzuki World MX2).

Ferris, who claimed a moto win in the MX2 World Championship at the venue in 2013, is adamant his experience at the British track will assist him and the team t the 2017 edition of the event, where the Aussies will be endeavouring to claim their first podium since 2011.

“It’s one of my favourite tracks, I’ve had a bit of success there in 2013,” Ferris recalled to MotoOnline.com.au. “It’s a good track for the Aussies I think, it has similar dirt to here and ruts – it’s quite technical. I know Kirk and Hunter will be good there too.

“I think you get confidence from even riding there, I’ve been there once or twice now, and you just gain confidence every time you go to a familiar track. I think my experience should help there.”

The New South Welshman dominated the Motul MX Nationals this year, claiming nine of a possible 10 round victories, which Ferris is eager to continue on with that form at the highly-regarded international event.

“Hopefully I can take my motocross form – my championship form – over to Europe for the Nations, hopefully we can have a really good result there with Kirk and Hunter.

“There’s going to best some fast yanks and Euro guys as well, they’re on top of their game in motocross in the world stage. I want to get a good start, I know I can run a good speed, so we’ll see where we’re at.”

The factory Yamaha rider, who just came off a podium at the opening round of the Australian supercross, has represented the country at the MXoN on a number of occasion, claiming fourth in the Open division in 2016 to assist Australia to eighth overall, while Gibbs and Lawrence will make their debut in the green and gold colours.
