Newly-crowned MX1 champion Dean Ferris (CDR Yamaha) recorded his ninth victory of season today at Coolum’s 10th and final round of the Motul MX Nationals in Queensland.

Ferris captured the hole-shot in moto one before being passed by Todd Waters (Crankt Protein Honda Racing) in the early stages, although Ferris would fight back, regaining the number one spot to take yet another race win.

Waters maintained second through to the flag, as Super Pole victor Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team) was third, briefly running in second before a crash relegated him to the final spot in the top three.

Kade Mosig (DPH Motorsport Yamaha) and Dylan Long (CDR Yamaha) were fourth and fifth respectively, as the top 10 was rounded out by Brett Metcalfe (Mega Fuels Monster Energy Kawasaki), Kyle Peters (Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki), Luke Styke (KTM Motocross Racing Team), Hamish Harwood (Davey Motorsports KTM) and Joel Milesevic (KSF Racing Husqvarna).

Ferris hit the lead with another commanding hole-shot in moto two, he went onto outclass the field at the demanding Coolum circuit to take a controlling race victory.

The premier class soon settled into position, with Waters taking a comfortable over Gibbs, as Long broke through for his best moto result of the year to place fourth. Metcalfe was fifth, followed by Mosig, Nathan Crawford (Mega Fuels Monster Energy Kawasaki), Peters, Styke and Milesevic who completed the top 10.

For the day it was Waters and Gibbs behind Ferris, and with Ferris wrapping up the title last weekend, Gibbs and Mosig would be awarded the final top three positions in the championship.
