2015 Australian MX2 champion Jay Wilson recorded his best result last since making a return to the Motul MX Nationals series last weekend at Toowoomba, concluding the event in a respectable fifth position.

Wilson, who has experienced great success at the Echo Valley venue, qualified fifth fastest before lodging a pair of fifth place moto scores.

The Raceline Pirelli KTM rider said it’s a step in the right direction, however he’s still adapting to running at a high pace for the longer duration motos.

“The weekend was a real step in the right direction for myself and the team,” Wilson explained. “We qualified well, and in race one I felt like I was back to my old self. I was in third for most of the moto and just slipped back at around the 25-minute mark – after being away from the championship for the first half of the season, I just need to get used to running that pace again.

“In race two I didn’t get the greatest start but I went forward which was the goal. I’m feeling more and more comfortable on the bike, and now I’m just excited to go racing again this weekend at Coolum.”

Despite missing the first half of the series to contest the MX2 World Championship, Wilson currently sits 17th in the standings as one round remains this weekend at Coolum in Queensland.
