DPH Motorsport Yamaha has confirmed AMA supecross regular Hayden Mellross will return home to Australia to complete the final rounds of the Motul MX Nationals and the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship.

Mellross, who raced under the DPH awning in last years Australian supercross series, agonisingly lost the SX2 title after a mechanical failure in the final main event of the season denied him of being crowned champion.

The New South Welshman will make a welcomed return to the squad as he endeavours to claim his first championship in professional racing, while his appearances in the final two rounds of motocross will be his first outdoors since the final rounds of Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross in 2016.

“To finish the Australian Supercross Championship like that really hurt,” Mellross explained. “So after getting back into racing in the US, I expressed interest pretty early to Dale [Hocking] and my mechanic Marty [Dowd] to come back and finish what we started.

“I’ve just got back from the US and I’ve been riding with Kade Mosig and Wilson Todd already, I’m pretty excited to get in and mix it up with the guys I’ll competing against come round one at Jimboomba on 23 September”.

Mellross’ 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX West campaign was riddled injuries, however he still lodged some of the best finishes of his career with a number of top 10 results in the highly-competitive class.

Toowoomba will host the penultimate round of the MX Nationals on 13 August, followed by the season finale at Coolum one week later. The Australian Supercross Championship is slated to kick off at Jimboomba in Queensland on 23 September, and will span over six rounds through to November.
