KTM Amateur Cup to feature at Toowoomba round of Motul MX Nationals

Motul MX Nationals press release:

In just over one week’s time the penultimate round of the Motul MX Nationals will take place at the picturesque Echo Valley Raceway in Toowoomba, and joining the Championship categories as the Support class at Round 9 will be the KTM Amateur Cup.

The Amateur Cup caters for senior riders on all powered bikes who have not finished in the top seven in the Amateur Cup championship within the last three years, and who have not finished within the top five positions of single races in either MX1 or MX2 in the past two years.

With KTM Australia once again taking up the naming rights to the class, the two round title is set to impress the crowds at Toowoomba, and one competitor who is relishing in the opportunity, is local rider Kerrod Morrissy.

“I really enjoyed racing the 125 Cup Class this year, and I wanted to continue riding without all the added pressure, so the Amateur Cup class was a perfect fit for me,” Morrissy explained.

“These days, I only get to ride once a week on a Sunday but I still want to do well. The races in the KTM Amateur Cup category are shorter and it’s a class that is still very competitive which ticks all the boxes. It gives people like myself the opportunity to race without competing against the factory teams.

“I’m really excited for next weekend, because I will have family and friends coming along to support me, so I hope to do well. The Toowoomba MX Club always prepare the track well and I am always pumped to ride at home.”

Finally, Morrissy has also encouraged others to join him for the two races in the KTM Amateur Cup Category at Toowoomba next weekend.

“If you’re thinking about racing, don’t hesitate, just enter because it is heaps of fun,” Morrissy shared.

“The Williams Event Management Team runs an awesome event, so if you work full time and you still want to race, it’s a great class to enter in.”

Entries for the KTM Amateur Cup at Round 9 of the Motul MX Nationals are still open, so those thinking about hitting the track in the class next weekend are encouraged to do so and get their entries in ASAP.
