Newly-crowned Motul MX Nationals MXD champion Cody Dyce has elected to skip a MX2 wildcard opportunity at the final two rounds of the outdoor series, while his Yamalube Yamaha Racing teammate Cooper Pozniak is grasping at the chance to race in the quarter-litre category.

Dyce, who is in his first year of racing in the senior ranks, will miss the wildcard opening in favour of getting a head start in supercross preparations, as he is yet ride the discipline in his youthful career.

“We opted out of doing [supercross],” Dyce said to MotoOnline.com.au. “I’m just going to get a good month of supercross testing under my belt because I’ve never done it before. The opportunity will come to ride in the MX2 class, it’s not like I have to do it straight away.

“I’m just going to keep putting in the hours on the bike and constantly train, I’ve got Krusic’s Ride Park just down the road from my house – it’s a good training facility there and they have a couple of tracks. So I’m just going to put in a solid month of riding see how I go.”

Pozniak has multiple rounds of supercross experience in both SX2 and previously in junior categories, which has made the New South Welshman comfortable in deciding to race the Toowoomba and Coolum rounds of motocross.

“The boys at Yamalube Yamaha Racing are going to help me out with a few things, I’ll just be riding my practice bike,” Pozniak explained. “I’m fairly confident in supercross because I’ve ridden it for pretty much two years now, so I’ll do a week of supercross now, and then I’ll ride motocross the week before Toowoomba.

“I’ll see how I go, obviously I’ll be racing in the MX2 class next year, so it will be good to see where I’m at and what it’s like to do a 30-minute moto. It will be good to mix it up with those boys.”

Toowoomba’s ninth round of the Motul MX Nationals is scheduled 13 August, while the opening round of the 2017 Australian Supercross Championship is slated for 23 September, at Jimboomba in Queensland.
