Dunlop victorious again in MX1 and MX2 at Conondale

Dunlop Tyres press release:

Dunlop racers enjoyed a successful day at the third round of the 2017 MX Nationals on Sunday, claiming five of the six available podium positions across the two pro classes in MX1 and MX2 respectively.

CDR Yamaha’s defending MX1 champion Dean Ferris was at his dominant best around the Green Park circuit at Conondale, Queensland, finishing the day with a maximum haul of points by winning both races and posting the fastest Super Pole time.

The 2015 champion Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team) followed Ferris to the line in both races with a consistent brace of second-place finishes around the fast, flowing, natural-terrain track. DPH Motorsports Yamaha racer Kade Mosig rounded out the top five after a hard-fought fourth overall in the opening race, then a creditable seventh in the second outing.

In the MX2 class, Dunlop racers filled the podium as Serco Yamaha rookie Mitch Evans hunted down his team-mate Jackson Richardson late in both races to perform his second consecutive clean sweep and claim the championship-leading red plate in the process. DPH Motorsports Yamaha’s Wilson Todd rounded out the Dunlop – and Yamaha – podium domination with a hard charge through the pack in the second race to finish with a 3-4 scorecard for the day.

In the MXD class Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s Cody Dyce finished the round tied on count-back for the win after a 1-2 result, taking over the championship red plate from his team-mate Cooper Pozniak at the same time. The latter endured a difficult day on Sunday.

Dunlop national motorcycle manager Sebastian Mincone was proud of the continued domination of the MX Nationals by the Dunlop-shod riders and teams: “It’s been a great start to the MX Nationals season and again, we congratulate everybody on so much success. The Dunlop-supported teams are performing fantastic at this stage of the season and it was very satisfying to see both Dean and Mitchell on top of the podiums again. Well done!”

The 2017 MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will continue with round four at Horsham, Victoria, on Sunday, 21 May. Head to www.mxnationals.com.au for further details on the series.
