Dunlop dominates MX Nationals podiums at Wonthaggi

Dunlop Tyres press release:

Dunlop racers have enjoyed a dominant beginning to the 2017 MX Nationals series after winning all three championship classes – MX1, MX2 and MXD – and claiming seven of the nine podium placings on offer at Wonthaggi in Victoria on Sunday, 2 April.

The MX1 division saw CDR Yamaha’s defending champion Dean Ferris capture Super Pole and both 30-minute moto wins, commencing his title assault in commanding fashion. He was joined on the podium by fellow Dunlop runners Kade Mosig (DPH Motorsport Yamaha) and Kirk Gibbs (KTM Motocross Racing Team). Second of the factory KTMs, Luke Styke, was fourth.

In MX2 DPH Motorsport Yamaha’s Wilson Todd took his maiden overall via an assertive 1-2 scorecard, while Serco Yamaha factory newcomer Mitch Evans – last year’s MXD champion – impressed by placing third on the podium, ahead of supercross champion Jackson Richardson (Serco Yamaha) in fourth.

The MXD overall belonged to Yamalube Yamaha Racing’s new signing Cooper Pozniak, who won both motos for the round. His teammate, Cody Dyce, crossed the line first in moto one but was hit with a 10-second penalty, demoting him to second position. He eventually finished third overall, one place ahead of SD3 Husqvarna’s Kaleb Barham in P4.

Dunlop national motorcycle manager Sebastian Mincone congratulated the efforts of the Dunlop-equipped teams and riders: “My congratulations to all of the Dunlop riders, in particular Dean, Wilson and Cooper on their victories. We have had a great start to the season and the performance has been strong, so we look forward to the upcoming rounds.”

Dunlop’s success at Wonthaggi also extended across into the 125cc Junior Cup category, as youthful KTM-supported duo Regan Duffy and Mason Semmens powered to 1-2 results on the overall podium using Dunlop tyres.

The 2017 MX Nationals, Australian Motocross Championship, will continue with round two at Appin, New South Wales, on Sunday, 23 April. Head to www.mxnationals.com.au for further details on the series.
