A total of 21 new members were inducted into the Australian Motor Sport Hall of Fame at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre last weekend, as versatile all-rounder Ken Rumble joined previous motocross inductees Jeff Leisk and Stephen Gall.

The Australian Hall of Fame was launched last year with an inaugural list of 30 inductees, including five-time road racing world champion Mick Doohan, and has become one of the most prestigious honours in motor-racing locally.

“It has been another fantastic evening and I think has carried on a great tradition from last year’s inaugural event,” said Hall of Fame chairman Garry Connelly. “Tonight’s list of inductees will again create plenty of opinion and debate and that’s what programs like the Hall of Fame are all about.

“I think the 2017 list of inductees is a terrific tapestry of contributors from all sections of the sport, whether two wheels or four or from the dirt or tarmac. As you would expect, we already have had a few suggestions from people at tonight’s dinner for next year’s inductee list. When you go to work to put the list together each year you realise what a great depth of talent and history we have in every aspect in Australian Motor Sport.”

Legendary motorcycle road racers Troy Corser, Keith Campbell and Tom Phillis were honoured this year, while Arthur George ‘Bluey’ Wilkinson and Leigh Adams were inducted for their speedway achievements.

The inaugural inductees last year included Doohan, Leisk, Gall, Casey Stoner, Troy Bayliss, Wayne Gardner, Gregg Hansford, Kel Carruthers, Jason Crump, Jack Young and Lionel Van Pragg from their respective motorcycle disciplines.
