Shoulder injury forces Canard out of Anaheim 1 main event

Red Bull KTM debut a difficult one last Saturday night.

It was a tough start to the 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship for Trey Canard after opting out of the Anaheim 1 450SX main event due to a shoulder injury.

Sustained during practice inside Angel Stadium, the Red Bull KTM rider initially thought little of the injury and went on to qualify through to the 20-minute main event via the LCQ.

After making the decision to sit out the first main event of the season on debut with the factory KTM team, Canard will now seek medical attention this week to learn the full extent of the injury.

“I didn’t think it was much and tried to ride through it,” said Canard. “But by the time I got to the main event I couldn’t manage so I decided to call it a night. Getting checked out tomorrow so hopefully nothing too serious.”

The 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship will continue this weekend on 14 January inside San Diego’s Petco Park for round two of the 17-round series.
