Wilson hot out of the gates for Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team at round three

Team Honda Racing press release:

Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team’s Jay Wilson has wrapped up the third instalment of the 2016 Australian Supercross Championship with yet another consistent top ten result, infront of a huge crowd of spectators at Wayville in South Australia over the weekend.

With the team’s fill in rider Chris Alldredge remaining sidelined at Round 3, Wilson flew the flag for Factory Honda in Adelaide, and despite initially starting the day with difficulties, turned things around when it mattered, finishing the evening’s events with valuable championship points.

Despite beginning the round with a disappointing 12th in SX1 qualifying, the team made significant improvements to the Honda CRF450R machine, and when Wilson headed into his first heat race, he was determined to turn things around. And turn things around he did – after taking an impressive holeshot, Wilson led for a good portion of the race, and eventually crossed the line in 5th. While in the main event, Wilson once again got to another flying start, and was third through the first turn battling with some of the fastest riders in the country, eventually finishing the 20 lap race in 9th position.

“The weekend had its highs and lows. We started the morning off on the wrong foot, and really struggled with our set up all day, but when it mattered we managed to iron everything out and put together a solid heat race and main event,” Wilson shared.

“We tried something different with our starts last night and it really paid off. In the heat I got the holeshot and in the main I was third through the first turn, so now it’s just about getting used to that pace at the front – a lot of Supercross has to do with your start.

“At the moment I’m no where near where I know I can be, so these last two rounds are going to be about the whole team pulling together to finish off the year strong and show what we’re capable of.

“Next weekend is a home round for us, and with back to back weekends of racing it will be nice to have less time in airports and more time on the bike preparing – I’m excited to finish off this series with some good results.”

The Crankt Protein Honda Racing Team will now begin preparations for round four of the Australian Supercross Championship being held in Melbourne, Victoria on November 5, 2016.
