Motul MX Nationals stars swap bikes for fun on the Sunshine Coast

MX Nationals press release:

With the seriousness of a Motul MX Nationals championship round at Coolum this weekend looming, riders had the rare opportunity to take part in some good old fashioned fun today, at the Official Round 10 Media Day.

The festivities for Australia’s fastest racers kicked off at The Big Kart Track on the Sunshine Coast this morning, with riders and mechanics provided with the opportunity to swap two wheels for four, for some friendly racing ahead of this weekend.

With media representatives from television, newspapers, and the radio on hand, Wilson Coolair Motul Factory Suzuki’s Todd Waters said this morning was the perfect chance to get away from the motocross track, and just enjoy some of what the Sunshine Coast has to offer.

“Events like this at the Big Kart Track this morning are always a lot of fun. It’s nice to get away from the sport a little bit and just enjoy being on the Sunshine Coast,” Waters said.

“The V8 guys do stuff like this a lot so it’s good to see us incorporating that into our sport too.

“It’s all pretty serious once we get to the track at Coolum, so it’s nice to just get out here and have a bit of fun in the Karts with the boys ahead of this weekend.”

Fellow Thor MX1 competitor Dean Ferris, also shared that he’s hoping his speed in the Go Kart this morning is some sort of sign as to what this weekend’s final round of the MX Nationals will hold.

“I’m definitely hoping that how I went in the Kart today is some sort of indication of how Round 10 is going to go,” Ferris shared.

“My girlfriend and I have actually been practicing in the Karts during the off-season, and I thought I had some pretty good lines out there (laughs).

“As for the weekend, I’m heading in to it just like it’s another round, I’m going to ride my best and just focus on what I’m doing.”

Following this morning’s event at the Big Kart Track, NPE Monster Energy Kawasaki’s American Import Kyle Peters headed straight to Australia Zoo, to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s most iconic animals.

“Today was super cool. The MX Nationals crew took me down to Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo and I got to check out heaps of Aussie animals,” Peters shared

“The staff at Australia Zoo made us feel really welcome, and they even gave us a private Koala holding experience and a bird holding encounter which was awesome.

“I love it over here, and we don’t get animals like that over in the US, so it was a really cool experience to be a part of today.”

The tenth and final round of the 2016 Motul MX Nationals is set to be held at Coolum Pines MX Track, this coming weekend August 27-28.
