Verdict:
As we expected and predicted, the action at Toowoomba didn’t disappoint and has set the stage for a thrilling end to the 2016 MX Nationals, as the three-way dogfight between Dean Ferris, Kirk Gibbs and Todd Waters continued to steal the headlines. However, it was American import Kyle Peters who played the biggest wildcard in the day’s proceedings, as he withheld a tonne of pressure from Ferris to win the opening race, then mixed it up with both Ferris and Gibbs in the second moto. More crucially, Peters’ second overall result shunted Todd Waters off the podium for the first time since Nowra and makes the Suzuki rider’s job just that much harder entering the Coolum finale on Sunday. Toowoomba also saw Crankt Protein Honda Racing’s Dylan Long find some decent form after sitting out Shepparton with a hard-earned fifth overall.

Verdict:
After coming into the penultimate round of the MX Nationals championship tied on points with Jed Beaton, Nathan Crawford rode with a maturity beyond his 19 years to leave his home round with an 11-point buffer over his rival. Crawford was on-song as soon as qualifying started and won the opening race by a sizeable 10 seconds over Wilson Todd. In the second race Caleb Ward chalked up the race win, with Crawford hot on his heels in second. Meanwhile, Beaton finished the day rounding out the podium with a 5-3 result, while Kale Makeham and Dylan Wills enjoyed god outings with fourth and fifth overall respectively. As we head towards a thrilling series finale at Coolum, Crawford, Beaton and Ward are all in with a crack at the title, but all three revel in the sand and the title will go down to the wire.
