Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Racing’s Romain Febvre captured the overall win in front of his home crowd at the 10th round of the 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship in Saint Jean d’Angely, France.

The premier class went down to the wire between defending champion Febvre and rookie sensation Tim Gajser. Moto one saw 2015 MX2 world champion Gajser claim the slimmest of victories ahead of Febvre followed by Antonio Cairoli, Evgeny Bobryshev and Jeremy Van Horebeek.

Moto two saw the same two riders, Febvre and Gajser, up front again battling for the lead. Eventually it was Febvre who captured the lead and moto win ahead of the Honda Gariboldi rider.

Febvre’s moto two win handed him the overall win ahead of Gajser in second place on an equal 47 points. Bobryshev, aboard his Team HRC entry claimed third followed by Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Cairoli and Monster Energy Kawasaki Racing Team’s Clement Desalle.

Gajser continues to lead the MXGP championship with a 24-point gap between himself and Febvre followed by Cairoli in third, Max Nagl in fourth and Bobryshev in fifth.

In the MX2 category it was Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings who claimed the overall victory with yet another 1-1 sweep in France.

Moto one saw Kemea Yamaha Official MX Team’s Benoit Paturel lead a majority of the moto before Herlings captured the lead with two laps remaining after coming through the pack.

Paturel finished the opening moto in second position followed by Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer, Aleksander Tonkov and Pauls Jonass.

Moto two saw Herlings claim another come from behind victory ahead of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Max Anstie followed by Paturel in third, Seewer in fourth and Jonass in fifth.

With Herlings claiming the overall victory, the 57th win of his career, it was Paturel in second followed by Seewer in third to round out the podium. Jonass claimed fourth overall with Dylan Ferrandis in fifth.

Herlings continues to lead the MX2 championship with a 134 point gap between himself and second place rider Seewer. Jonass holds down third overall followed by Paturel and Tonkov to round out the top five.
