Australians soar to gold medals at X Games in Austin

A selection of Australia’s best freestyle motocross athletes rose to the occasion at the X Games Austin event capturing a total of 10 medals across multiple disciplines.

Australia’s Josh Sheehan led the charge in the Moto X Freestyle event, capturing the gold medal with an impressive performance ahead of fellow Australians Rob Adelberg and Clinton Moore to make it an Aussie sweep of the podium.

Taka Higashino was fourth ahead of New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood in fifth. Former event winner Blake ‘Bilko’ Williams finished the event in ninth place.

Australia’s Jarryd McNeil claimed gold in the Moto X Step Up event with a 33ft leap ahead of Libor Podmol, Massimo Bianconcini, Bryce Hudson and multi-time winner Ronnie Renner.

Moto X Best Trick saw an incredible performance by Australia’s Jackson Strong who returned from hospital following a crash in the Moto X Quarterpipe event to claim gold ahead of fellow countrymen Josh Sheehan and Clinton Moore for yet another Aussie podium sweep.

Behind the all-Australian podium was Japan’s Higashino followed by Australia’s Rob Adelberg in fifth, Blake Willams in eighth and Harry Bink in ninth.

Moto X Best Whip saw Australia’s Jarryd McNeil capture gold with a 39 percent voting percentage ahead of Axell Hodges and Edgar Torronteras. Sheehan finished just off the podium in fourth followed by Tom Parsons in fifth.

In the Moto X Quarterpipe event it was Frencham Tom Pages claiming the gold medal with Australians Sheehan and Moore rounding out the podium. Mat Rebaud was fourth followed by Anthony Murray in fifth, Strong in sixth and Sherwood seventh.
