GEICO Honda’s Malcolm Stewart will sit out the 2016 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross series to prepare for his full time move to the premier 450 class in 2017.

Clinching the 2016 Monster Energy AMA Supercross 250SX Eastern Regional Championship forces Stewart to 450SX next year according to the AMA pointing out rule.

In addition, Stewart admits he now knows the amount of worked involved to be a championship contender and looks to step up his program before making the move to the hotly contested and talent filled category.

“Now that I have won my first 250 SX championship, I know first hand just how much work it takes to become a champion,” said Stewart. “So as I move full time to the 450 class for 2017 I know it will take twice as much work and preparation.

“Not riding the outdoors this year will leave me plenty of time to prepare for my 450 supercross and motocross pro debut. Thanks to everyone at GEICO Honda and my family for helping me win this 250 SX Championship!”

Although Stewart will be vacant for the entire series, GEICO Honda are drafting in rookie Tristan Charboneau who will make his pro debut at Hangtown’s season opener.
