Honda Gariboldi’s Tim Gajser captured his second MXGP victory of the 2016 season in the picturesque mountains of Villa la Angostura for Patagonia’s fourth round of the FIM Motocross World Championship.

On the technical and physical circuit it was the 19-year-old rookie Slovenian MXGP rookie who excelled over the weekend with a qualifying race win backed up with a 3-1 moto scorecard for the overall victory.

“I had a really good weekend,” said Gajser. “I won my first ever qualifying race yesterday and I took a holeshot and won today. Next we go to Mexico and I have good memories there, I won my first ever MX2 race there and I really like the track so I look forward to going there.”

Behind Gajser it was eight-time world champion Antonio Cairoli aboard his Red Bull KTM Factory Racing entry in second position. This result marking his first podium finish since May 2015.

Rounding out the podium was moto one winner Max Nagl of the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing team who took a fifth place finish in moto two to secure his spot on the box.

Defending champion Romain Febvre was fourth overall on the day, he will now enter the fifth round of the series with just a three point lead over Gajser.

Red Bull KTM Factory Racing’s Jeffrey Herlings continued his strong form in Argentina, sweeping both motos and capturing with his 100th race win in the process.

Team Suzuki World MX2’s Jeremy Seewer had his work cut out for him as he spent both races banging bars with the competition, he finished the day in second place with a 4-2 moto scorecard ahead of Wilvo Standing Construct Yamaha’s Aleksandr Tonkov in third.

The 2016 FIM Motocross World Championship will now make its way to Mexico on 17 April for the MXGP of Leon.
