Roger DeCoster, manager of the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing Team, has spoken out following Marvin Musquin’s final lap mishap during the Atlanta Monster Energy AMA Supercross 450SX main event.

While racing his teammate Ryan Dungey for what would have been his first career victory in the premier class, the duo came up on former multi-time champion James Stewart who was about to go a lap down to the leaders.

After making his way by the Suzuki rider, the 450SX rookie then proceeded to make a costly error allowing Dungey to take the lead and the race victory, an error DeCoster feels should not be blamed on Stewart in any way.

“After the race a lot of blame was given to James,” said DeCoster. “I just want to make things clear that the mistake from Marvin was not directly caused by James and we shouldn’t blame him for it.”

“Credit to Marvin, he rode an amazing race and was under tremendous pressure from Ryan for the majority of the race. To lead for 19 consecutive laps is no easy task and how quickly he has adapted to the big bike class in just eight rounds is very impressive.”

After spearing off the track and giving up the lead, Musquin regained his composure and went on to capture a career-best second place finish inside the Georgia Dome.
