DPH Motorsport’s Jed Beaton is remaining focused on his 2016 Australian MX Nationals campaign whilst contesting the New Zealand Motocross Championship as part of his pre-season program.

The 18-year-old, riding under the New Zealand based Triple B Valley Fresh Yamaha awning, admits his main objective is not to win the Kiwi championship, but to ensure he is completely prepared for his second season in the MX2 category.

“Winning this championship is not my main objective, although of course I’d like to,” said Beaton. “But we have been making good progress and making good improvements towards the Australian campaign coming up.”

After two rounds of racing, the Tasmanian is making forward progress aboard his YZ250F chalking up multiple moto wins as the four-round series hits its mid-point.

“I went a fair bit better at Himatangi than at Timaru,” he added. “In the first race I had only an average start, about fourth I think, but then I had visibility problems with my goggles. I won the second race, managing to keep Hamish [Harwood] behind me – it was a fun race.

“In the third race I had another average start and simply didn’t pass riders quickly enough and this allowed Hamish to get away a bit. But my performance today has put me in a solid position.”

Beaton currently sits second overall in the MX2 championship standings, 17 points behind series leader Harwood.
