Final round win and SX2 championship podium for Wilson MX

Wilson MX press release:

Penrite Honda Wilson MX and Jackson Richardson have wrapped up their 2015 Australian Supercross Championship campaign with an epic final round win, and a second place in the overall SX2 Championship at Knights Stadium in Melbourne over the weekend.

After qualifying fastest and then getting caught up in the first turn of the main event, Richardson raced from dead last to first position on Saturday night, putting on one of his best performances for the season, and putting his Penrite Honda Wilson MX machine on the overall SX2 Championship podium.

For Richardson’s teammate Geran Stapleton, a podium position evaded the Victorian at round six, finishing the night in a hard fought eighth place after injuring himself earlier in the day. However despite a tough final round for Stapleton, the Honda mounted rider finished just shy of the SX2 Championship podium in fourth overall.

Jake Williams, who had battled through the week prior to round six with sickness, concluded the round in 13th overall, leaving him in 16th place in the SX2 championship standings.

Wilson MX would like to extend their thanks and appreciation to their sponsors, partners, supporters and team members who made racing in 2015 possible. Without the dedication of everyone involved, the results provided this year would not have been possible.

Jackson Richardson SX2 – 1st Overall (2nd in the SX2 Championship)

“I’m stoked with the weekend, and it was awesome to finish the year out on such a high note,” he said.

“The guys at Wilson MX have made me feel very welcome throughout the supercross season and I’m very appreciative of the opportunity.

“To get the final race win of the year just topped off second place in the championship, and I’m really happy with how everything has played out this year.”

Geran Stapleton – 8th Overall (4th in the SX2 Championship)

“The weekend really didn’t go the way I planned to be honest. I was really pushing to finish on the championship podium but things didn’t really go my way,” he said.

“I had a crash during qualifying and I actually think I’ve broken my rear end (laughs) which made racing through the pain pretty hard. Racesafe did a good job of getting me back out there but although I think I rode ok, I couldn’t ride at 100 per cent.

“In the main I was taken out in the first turn but given the circumstances I’m still happy to have finished in fourth in the championship – it was great to be a part of Wilson MX in 2015.”

Jake Williams SX2 – 13th Overall (16th in the SX2 Championship)

“It was a tough weekend again for me after being sick all week and having no real time to train in the lead up to round six,” he said.

“I had no energy at all and even though I pushed as hard as I could I just couldn’t keep up the race pace with being so sick.

All in all, I’m stoked that I got the opportunity again to race with Wilson MX. Those guys make going to the races a lot of fun and I’m glad that I could be a part of this year’s Supercross series.”

Luke Wilson (19th in the SX2 Championship)

“It was tough watching from the sidelines on the weekend but all in all it’s been a pretty solid year for the team,” he said.

“It’s been a bit of an up and down season, but I feel like I really found some form that i had been looking for towards the end, and it was just a shame that I had a couple of crashes along the way.

“Now I know going into next year what I need to do – I’m training with the right people, and i’m focussed on delivering some results to our sponsors next year.

“It really has been very special being part of Wilson MX this year, we’re a family operated team and the positivity under the truck shows. A massive thanks to everyone who’s been behind us all the way.”

Neale Wilson – Wilson MX Team Manager

“It was a great weekend for us, and to finish the year with a successful event for Yarrive and to have Jackson on the podium really topped off a great year,” he said.

“I’d personally like to thank Glyn Griffiths from Honda and Toby Dymond from Penrite – both of those guys have really supported our goals and visions and it’s been great to have them in our corner. Also a huge thanks to our other sponsors, everyone’s input has contributed this year.”

“We have had two SX2 championship podiums in two years and I think it just shows that the formula we have works. We’re very excited for the future and pleased to have finished another huge year of racing.”
