Red Bull IceOne Husqvarna Factory Racing’s Todd Waters salved important championship points despite a heavy heat race fall that forced him to DNF Saturday’s qualifier.

Waters escaped serious injury in the damaging crash, which resulted in having the last pick of the start gates during Sunday’s motos, however 14-10 finishes resulted in 12th overall.

“Crashing hard in my qualifying race on Saturday made this a tough GP for me,” Waters explained. “I got a great start, was sat in second behind Tommy Searle and then hit the ground. Not finishing the race gave me last pick for the start on Sunday, so I always knew it would be good to get strong starts.

“The first moto was going okay, but then I dropped it with a few laps to go and dropped to 14th. The track was pretty slick – I gave my all in the second moto and felt good. 10th wasn’t the result I was looking for, but it’s hard to come back from a big qualifying crash.”

The result sees Waters drop to 10th in the championship standings following 12 rounds, with the next stop scheduled for the Czech Republic on 26 July.
