Form guide

The favourites:
Kirk Gibbs (MX1) – With a commanding 1-1 result at Horsham a fortnight ago, red plate holder Gibbs has shown his cards for the season ahead. Coming off such a convincing performance at round one, it’s hard to look past him right now.

Luke Clout (MX2) – If it weren’t for a time penalty in moto two at the opener, defending champion Clout would have started out the year with the overall. But it wasn’t to be and instead, he will look to replicate his victory at Appin from one year ago to open his 2015 tally.

The threats:
Matt Moss (MX1) – Moss had a disastrous opening round and, at least for now, many are doubting he can bounce back for the title from 40 points back. If he can come out and sweep Appin, as he did in 2014, the critics will be silenced once again.

Jed Beaton (MX2) – To win the overall on debut in MX2 was a spectacular start for Beaton and as a result, he will have red plates at Appin. With incredible speed on his side, another win on Sunday will confirm him as a genuine title favourite alongside Serco Yamaha stablemate Clout.

The darkhorses:
Luke Styke (MX1) – A podium at the opener was exactly what Styke ordered in his first MX1 appearance with KTM and you can be he took a boat-load of confidence from that finish. He spends a lot of time at Appin, like many of the contenders, and he won there on his way to the 250 title two years ago.

Jay Wilson (MX2) – Fourth at Horsham was decent for Wilson, but both he and JCR boss Josh Coppins felt like there was more in the tank after a strong NZ campaign. With his younger brother on the road to recovery from his MXD fall at round one, a win for Wilson would be incredible on Sunday.
