Wilson MX record encouraging results at round one

Stapleton and Wilson get MX Nationals season underway.

Wilson MX press release:

Penrite, Jetpilot and Honda backed Wilson MX have left Horsham satisfied, with both MX2 riders Luke Wilson and Geran Stapleton posting encouraging results at round one over the weekend. The Honda backed privateer effort, arrived at the series opener hoping to gauge were MX2 pilots Stapleton and Wilson were in the field, and to take away vital race information ahead of round two.

Stapleton, who made his first appearance for the Wilson MX team at Horsham, found the circuit a challenge to say the least, but managed to conclude the round just outside of the top ten.For Wilson, round one was about building on his 2014 results and remaining on two wheels – all the while flying the flag for the Honda backed team.

Geran Stapleton MX2 – 13th Overall – (10th, 16th)

“The first race I got a bad start, and I think I came around the first corner in about seventh or so,” he said. “After that I crashed and that put me way back, but I worked my way back to tenth which is not great, but considering I crashed is not too bad I suppose.

“In the last one I was in fifth and then again crashed my brains out, and managed to work my way back to 16th, so it was a pretty tough day to be honest. “I wasn’t a big fan of the track, it wasn’t my style of track at all. But at the end of the day everyone had to ride it and I’m hoping Appin suits me a bit better.

“Probably the best part of my day was the bike. The Honda has been great from day dot, so I’m really stoked to be on board with Wilson MX this year. Hopefully I can get a better result for the team at round two.”

Luke Wilson MX2 – 19th Overall – (24th, 20th)

“My day didn’t start off how I wanted it to but I got through the day safe, so it just gives me motivation to go home and work harder,” he said. “I ended up 19th for the day which isn’t a bad start and it’s a lot better than last year.“We will work on that result and just take it home as motivation to work hard for round two.

“The track was prepared very well, and there were a few crazy lines out there that’s for sure. “I thought the track would suit me but it definitely didn’t suit my riding style at all, so I’m just looking forward to the next round.“The bike and the team are awesome so I can’t complain there at all. Fingers crossed we can work hard in the next two weeks and get a good result at Appin.”

Neale Wilson – Wilson MX Team Manager

“Round one was pretty good. It’s a rough track and they both had a couple of little crashes but we got through, so we’re happy,” he said. “Luke had a bit of an issue with pulling all of his ‘tear offs’ off, but he came back from that which was great.“Both of the boys are feeling good, both are strong, and we’ll be ready for round two.

“Everything from a team perspective has come together really well, so its just a matter of the boys finding their feet in their races again. “We didn’t want to lose placing’s at the first round so I’m happy with what they did at Horsham. The bikes are awesome and the boys are both happy, so that’s what’s most important.”

The Wilson MX Race Team will head to Appin on April 12 for Round 2 of the MX Nationals.
