Price returns to off-road mode as AORC series resumes

Price makes the switch from desert racing to AORC mode.

KTM Enduro Racing Team’s Toby Price is making the transition back into off-road mode as the 2014 Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship resumes this weekend at Coonawarra in South Australia.

During the mid-season break, Price captured an impressive win at the famous Finke Desert Race following a long and tough return to the top of the sport after suffering severe spinal injuries just over one year ago.

Price has now parked his KTM 500 EXC desert racing machine and returned to his regular E2 campaigning KTM 450 EXC in preparation for the event.

“I’m still smiling, still looking at that Finke Trophy and don’t believe it,” said Price. “I still can’t explain it, it’s been a bit of a crazy road to achieve it, but we got there, so now we’ve got to get back into AORC mode.

“It’s always a little bit hard to switch when the bike is set up different and handles different and all those sort of things. I went riding the other day and had to remind myself you actually have to turn corners, so you don’t start out going too crazy and flat out, just go for a few trail rides and get back into the groove of dodging trees and not going 160kph everywhere.”

Price currently sits first overall in the Outright points chase with a five-point lead after completing six of the 12 rounds scheduled for the 2014 series.

“There’s still a long way to go in the series, but as long as I can keep myself up front, keep finishing on the podium and stay on board we should be good,” he added.
