The Australian Supercross Championship (ASX) will again feature at Phillip Island’s 2014 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix on 17-19 October, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) has confirmed.

Supercross will again take centre stage at the Lukey Heights section of the world-class grand prix venue, hosting rounds three and four of the series according to the AGPC.

The announcement comes despite ongoing drama surrounding appointed promoter International Entertainment Group (IEG), which lost its rights to the Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) last Friday.

Phillip Island’s event are the lone confirmed rounds on the calendar, with Bathurst expected to host the opening rounds of the series a week prior alongside the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 V8 Supercars event. Brisbane is due to conclude the series in November at a yet to be disclosed venue.

While the final line up of supercross categories supporting Pro Open and Pro Lites are still to be confirmed, AGPC CEO Andrew Westacott was delighted to have the championship back at Phillip Island.

“The off-track action is fast taking shape for the 2014 Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix and it’s a coup for patrons to confirm the Australian Supercross Championship as a key part of the line up,” Westacott said.

“The category has become a real highlight for race-goers and international MotoGP stars alike, and I’m sure this year the supercross riders will again put on an incredible show for the crowd.”

Reigning Pro Open Australian Supercross Champion Matt Moss also welcomed the return to Phillip Island.

“The Phillip Island double-header is a big one for all the guys,” Moss explained. “It’s a prestigious event to win, but it can also have big ramifications for your championship challenge, with two rounds in the one weekend.”

Supercross is again free to all MotoGP ticket holders, however Grandstand and VIP options are also available. For tickets and more information, visit www.motogp.com.au.
