Kiwi insurgence

Every year we get a good handful of fast Kiwis who try and lay claim to the Australian Motocross Championships, but that number looks to increase dramatically this year.
As well as Cody Cooper (Penrite Oils Honda) and Rhys Carter (Motul Suzuki), 2014 NZ MX2 and 2012 U19s champion Kayne Lamont has put his hand up as a serious contender to the MX2 throne. On top of that, 2013 U19 champ Hamish Harwood and his CMR KTM Racing teammate Hamish Dobbyn will line at the Broadford gate. Current number three MX1 racer Brad Groombridge will also make a fist of the MX Nationals’ MX1 class, racing for Byrners Suzuki. The starting gates are looking solid early on!

Unit goes into receivership

One of the craziest stories that’s gone down over the past 24 hours is that Unit clothing was placed in receivership yesterday. Established in 2002 and once classed as one of the fastest-growing action-sports labels in the world, Unit has become a victim of a brutal retail market and has gone belly-up.
A news story on the Gold Coast Bulletin’s website says Unit’s administrators are appealing for expressions of interest from buyers to save the business. In this current climate that’s a pretty long shot, but stranger things have happened.

MX Nationals live

Don’t you just love technology? After trialling a live stream of practice and qualifying at the Toowoomba and Coolum rounds of the MX Nationals last year, Williams Event Management has announced they will live stream practice, qualifying and the final moto of each class at every round this year. That’s a huge coup for moto fans who aren’t able to travel interstate to each race and will do all sorts of good to build the popularity of the series. Here’s a tip when you watch the races live streamed – whack a HDMI cable from your laptop to the TV, sit back on the couch and watch the action live on TV. Genius.

Potter makes the main

After six rounds of agony of just missing the cut for the main event, Victorian AMA Supercross 250SX East racer Taylor Potter finally broke through for his first main at Toronto over the weekend. Potter finished ninth in his heat to progress straight to the night show, where he held on for 17th place, gaining four valuable points in the process. Well done, mate! All the best for this weekend at St. Louis.

That’s a wrap for this week’s MX Hub. As always, remember to check out all of MotoOnline.com.au’s social networking channels and be sure to Like us on Facebook or Follow us on Twitter and Instagram for even more behind the scenes insights. Just search MotoOnline.
