CDR Yamaha’s Chris Hollis emerged as the Yamaha Australian Off-Road Championship leader following a dramatic opening two rounds of the season at Bulahdelah this weekend.

In Saturday’s opening round Toby Price (KTM Enduro Racing Team) was the Outright winner from fellow former two-time champion Hollis and Glenn Kearney, who debuted for the Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team.

Price and Hollis were also 1-2 in the E2 division to open the season from Josh Green (Active8 Yamaha), while Kearney headed the big-bore E3 ranks from Stefan Granquist (Active8 Yamaha) and Jarrod Bewley (Husaberg).

To start the E1 season it was KTM new recruit Peter Boyle who claimed first round spoils, from Tom McCormack (Active8 Yamaha) and Scott Keegan (Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team).

In the Women’s it was Jess Gardiner (Sherco) the round one winner and in the brand new Under 19s category Daniel Chucky Sanders (KTM) drew first blood.

Meanwhile defending AORC champion Daniel Milner (CDR Yamaha) suffered a disastrous start to his season, credited 13th in round one to commence the title defence after a major crash during the round.

Sunday was a complete turnaround for Milner however with the Outright and E2 victories, while this time it was Price who struck trouble with hip, arm and wrist injuries after making contact with a tree at speed.

Milner bounced back to win Outright from CDR Yamaha teammate Hollis – who is now the series leader by virtue of consistency – and Husaberg’s Bewley, who starred during Sunday’s proceedings.

In the E2 ranks it was Milner the winner from teammate Hollis and Green, who has returned from a serious arm injury sustained in Finke testing recently.

The E1 class on Sunday was won by McCormack from Boyle and Keegan in third. Bewley edged out Kearney for E3 honours, while Granquist was third on his big-bore WR.

Tayla Jones (KTM) traded places with Gardiner for the Women’s victory on Sunday, while Sanders again won the Under 19s.

The next two Yamaha AORC rounds three and four will be held in Boyland, Queensland, over the Easter Weekend on 19-20 April.
