Australian Todd Waters has claimed third overall in both the MX1 and Elite categories of the Italian International Motocross Championship, which concluded with round three at Montevachi on Sunday.

The Red Bull Ice One Husqvarna Factory Racing rider was sixth in the MX1 race over the weekend amongst a star-studded field, the podium filled by Kawasaki teammates Gautier Paulin and Jeremy Van Horebeek alongside Yamaha’s Steven Frossard.

The MX1 title went to Van Horebeek after world champion Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM) suffered a non-finish in the final round.

In the Elite division, featuring a combination of MX1 and MX2 contenders, Paulin won from Frossard and Van Horebeek. Waters meanwhile was seventh, enough to secure a top three in the standings.

Australian champion Luke Styke (KEMEA Yamaha) was a promising fifth in the MX2 ranks on debut in Europe as a fulltime GP regular, the round won by Kawasaki’s Arnaud Tonus. The championship was won by Christophe Charlier for Yamaha. Styke was 20th in the Elite race.
