GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac will decide at Phoenix, Arizona, this Saturday whether he’ll return following injuries at last weekend’s Monster Energy Supercross season opener.

The 450SX class rookie injured his shoulder during a heat race incident on the opening lap, ruling him out of Anaheim 1’s remainder, however he’s determined to return for round two this weekend.

“I’m going there this Saturday and if my shoulder is good, it’s good,” Tomac explained. “If it’s not, it’s not. It’s still bad enough that I’m not sure which way it will go.”

Tomac has seen doctors and started a physical therapy regimen in order to heal in time to race this weekend, but it’s too early to make a definite decision.

“I want to make sure I’m safe enough to ride,” he added. “As much of a bummer it would be to miss this race, I don’t want to push it too hard and risk having to miss a lot of time.”

Tomac’s incident came on the opening lap of his season in heat two at A1, clashing with Kawasaki’s Jake Weimer and Suzuki privateer Weston Peick.
