The king of extreme enduro Graham Jarvis has taken out this year’s Bioflex Wildwood Rock Extreme Enduro, making it two wins from two starts.

Jarvis, 38, from Ripon in North Yorkshire had to work for this win as his younger Spanish team mate Alfredo Gomez pushed him all the way during the three gruelling hours.

Gomez piloted his Husaberg TE 300 to first place in the Prologue course and took the $1000 prize money in the process.

Once the three-hour race got underway it was Gomez leading from the outset with Jarvis running in a further second. Gomez surrendered his lead on the second last lap after becoming too tired, that allowed Jarvis pounce and take control of the race.

Jarvis went on to win by 5m42.937 with a total time of 3h14m41.985. What makes this win even more special is it’s the last time Jarvis will have had saddled up on a Husaberg as both himself and Gomez make the switch to Husqvarna.

“I started off a bit steady,” said Jarvis. “I always get arm pump on an event like this where it’s so intense. I dropped about two minutes on Alfredo [Gomez] on the start. But once that wore off I pushed really hard and caught him up pretty quick.

“I just got stronger and stronger towards the end of the race. The Husaberg TE 300 worked perfectly all day, I’m just wrapped to have come out on top again!”

Jarvis will not have a lot of time to celebrate his victory as he flies out of Melbourne today and heads to Africa for the Roof to Africa, which kicks off on Wednesday.

Second place man Gomez was happy enough to walk away with the sliver for the second consecutive year.

“I got a great start and led for a while,” said Gomez. “But then in the later part of the race my arms said ‘bye, bye’ because of arm I am recovering from an arm injury.

“I need to be happy but with my second place. I look forward to coming back next year and hopefully take the win.”

Making it a Husaberg 1-2-3 lockout on the podium was the 2010 Wildwood winner Mitch Harper. The 2013 event marked Harper’s first big race back since breaking his back in early April this year in a training accident in Sweden.

Things didn’t go all Harper’s way for the event. In the Prologue the 21-year-old had a huge crash and sustained a rib injury, but got on with the job to bring his TE 300 home one lap behind Jarvis and Gomez in third place after starting dead last.

“The track really awesome today,” said Harper. “I unfortunately started last due to crashing out in the Prologue so basically on the tenth row so I was ten minutes behind the front running group which made it a bit hard.

“I just pushed hard and got home in third, so I’m pretty happy. The Husaberg 300 was a dream, thanks heaps to Husaberg Australia for supplying me such a great bike.”

Rounding out the top five was Robert Nowak in fourth and this year’s J4 AORC champion Nic Tomlinson in fifth, who was having a go at this event for the very first time.

2013 World Enduro Junior Champion and last year’s Wildwood Rock race winner Matt Phillips was forced out of contention due to mechanical dramas. He pinched his rear brake line halfway through the first lap, eventually scored eighth overall.

Other class winners for the Bioflex Wildwood Rock Extreme Enduro were Dave Cash in the Over 40s, Kristie McKinnon in the Women’s class, Chris Perry in Expert and Con Privertera took out the Clubman class.
