Jake Moss and Brenden Harrison have taken out the opening round of the AMH Queensland Supercross Championship, contested at the Marshall Property on Saturday afternoon.

Six-lap heats greeted the riders in 34-degree heat. Moss and Dan McCoy were dominant in the heats and locked down the first two spots in qualifying, as well as both heats.

Jacob Wright showed great pace in practice, however a crash in heat two looked to put an end to his day. The 12-lap final showed scant regard for qualifying and heats, as Campbell Mining Suzuki’s Moss collared the $150 holeshot money and looked to streak away at the front.

McCoy was in second with a wounded Wright charging at the back of the Motorex KTM. Behind, Matt Haworth had logged his first solid start of the day, with Sam Duncanson rounding out the top five in the early stages.

By lap four Wright had a seen enough of McCoy’s back and moved into second, only to have McCoy snatch the position back the following corner. The crafty veteran used all the track to his advantage, Wright refused to get out of the throttle and paid the price, shooting over the berm.

Out front Moss was moving away with ease. Meanwhile, Duncanson got by Haworth for fourth place and charged after Wright searching for the podium.

The checkers flashed and Moss owned a sizable buffer over McCoy, and by that point Wright had fended off Duncanson for third, with Haworth rounding out the top five.

The final saw Casey Turner grab the holeshot with Nick Sutherland, Joel Evans and Harrison in close attendance. Taylor Potter suffered a mid-pack start and would have to charge with only 12 laps to find the podium.

The pace at the front was furious with all four riders attempting to squeeze into one line, Harrison got by Turner and Evans first and looked to run and hide.

The following lap Sutherland made the move into second, Potter meanwhile was carving a swathe through the field. From that point on Choice Motorsports KTM Harrison opened and gap and the TM-mounted Sutherland was unable to get any closer.

Harrison got the win over Sutherland and Potter, showing great patience and form to come back to third. Cairns product Wade Hunter nabbed fourth and Evans the fifth position.

The series will resume with the second and final round this Saturday, 9 November, at the Hayworth Property in Leyburn.
