The Australian Grand Prix Corporation (AGPC) today confirmed three of the world’s best female motocross racers will be at the start gates for the inaugural EVE Australian Women’s Supercross Championship on 18-20 October.

It was revealed American champion Jessica Patterson, X-Games gold medalist Vicki Golden and Japanese rising star Sayaka Kaneshiro will join Australia’s best female racers including X-Games silver medalist Meghan Rutledge for the three-round championship later this month.

The EVE Australian Women’s Supercross Championship will be held across three days at the Tissot Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO Andrew Westacott welcomed the women’s supercross to event’s entertainment line-up new for 2013.

“The supercross championship has proven to be a crowd favourite at Phillip Island and with the introduction of some of the world’s fastest female riders, there is sure to be non-stop action all weekend,” said Westacott.

It will be the first visit to Australia for six-time American champion Patterson who said she is looking forward to meeting some new fans while she is here.

“I am very excited to come and race in Australia,” Patterson said. “I have never been there before and have heard a lot of good things about it.”

“I really like supercross, it is exciting to see the women given a chance to race at a round with the guys.”

Vicki Golden, who is also the first female to ever contest Best Whip at X-Games, for which she took home a bronze medal, said she was ecstatic to be a part of the inaugural series.

“I’m beyond stoked to be part of such a big event like this one,” Golden said. “It is going to be a great experience racing in such a prestigious country.

“IEG, EVE Sport and the Australian Grand Prix Corporation have really outdone themselves by putting on this race for us.

“There are few who support the women’s side so it makes it even more of a blessing when someone does want to help and sees the potential.”

Sayaka Kaneshiro, who finished runner-up in the 2013 AMA Women’s Pro Motocross Championship, said she is looking forward to racing in Australia.

“This is a great chance to race in Australia and achieve a dream of competing against the best women in Supercross at a world-class event in such a beautiful country,” she said.

The EVE Australian Women’s Championship will also be part of the Terex Australian Supercross telecast on SPEEDWEEK, SBS and Speed TV.
