HSE Motorex KTM Off-Road Team’s Ben Grabham has clean swept the inaugural Western Australia Desert Racing Tri-Series, dominating the weekend’s proceedings at Kumarina Station in the state’s Pilbara Region.

Grabham had won the first two rounds of the championship at Doorawarra Station and Indee Station and carried the points lead and plenty of momentum into the event.

He won in comprehensive fashion, setting the early pace in Friday’s 10 kilometre prologue event before going on to claim victory over 500 kilometres of competitive stages on both Saturday and Sunday.

Riders tackled wide-open desert plains right through to slower, more technical terrain including river beds and rocky outcrops, a task that Grabham handled with relative ease on the new KTM 500 EXC.

“I had pretty much another perfect run,” said Grabham of his victory. “It was important to qualify well because of the dust and on stage one I opened about a 10 minute lead over Todd, and today just didn’t do anything silly and pulled probably another five today.”

Grabham’s unbeaten run across all three rounds means he also collects a cheque for $20,000, and he said he was still coming to terms with the victory.

“It’s awesome to win the whole thing, but it’s been such a whirlwind operation that it really hasn’t sunk in yet,” he said.

“The whole series was perfect and I couldn’t be any happier with the 2014 500 EXC. Danny at KTM gave the suspension a few tweaks and it just handled so good on a track which went from 170kph straights to first and second gear rocky creek beds.”

Grabham took the round three win from Todd Smith, with Matt Fish third, brother Broc Grabham fourth and Jehi Willis fifth.
