Josh Coppins’ successful native New Zealand race team has secured a new outside industry sponsor to back its domestic motocross title campaign.

Altherm Window Systems have signed on as naming rights sponsor, with the team to be known as the Altherm JCR Yamaha Racing Team.

Former grand prix racer and current Australian MX Nationals MX1 class champion Coppins is pleased to confirm the sponsorship and says the relationship will be a unique one.

“I am very excited about the relationship and thrilled that they have entrusted us to help promote their window systems,” said Coppins. “It has a real ‘feel good’ feeling about it and I’m keen to show them what we can do.”

Coppins said the sponsorship would be leveraged throughout the Altherm retail network and hoped to broaden the scope beyond pure racing.

“We will be offering tuition to teach youngsters how to ride an off-road motorbike,” explained Coppins. “Fostering the younger generation is just as important as managing the professionals.

“Altherm’s initiative is a fantastic way to provide an opportunity for those families new to, or familiar with, the sport of off-road riding to further their confidence and skills.”

The Altherm JCR Yamaha Racing Team will head into the 2013-2014 New Zealand Motocross Championship season with a stacked roster including current MX2 champion Scott Columb and MX1 runner-up Billy Mackenzie.
