Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Ryan Villopoto went head-to-head with arch-rival Ryan Dungey to earn his first-ever overall win at his home round in Washougal, Washington.

The eighth round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, sanctioned by AMA Pro Racing, kicked off with Red Bull KTM’s Dungey securing the 450 Class moto one holeshot.

Following Dungey was BTO Sports/KTM’s Andrew Short, Honda Muscle Milk’s Justin Barcia and Yoshimura Suzuki’s Trey Canard. Villopoto was further back in the field.

Villopoto quickly made his way through the field, finding his way past Barcia for third after he had a small tip over then making his way around Stewart for second.

The 2011 series champion continued to push the pace chasing down Dungey for the lead, but Villopoto came up short and finishes less than two seconds behind the moto one winner. Stewart held on for third followed by Barcia and Josh Grant.

Moto two saw Grant take the holeshot aboard his JGRMX/Toyota/Yamaha, but Dungey quickly took the lead after the second turn. Villopoto and Stewart also made their way past Grant during lap one.

Villopoto quickly latched onto Dungey’s lead pace and after following the defending champion for a number of laps he made an aggressive pass just after the finish line section of the track.

Villopoto stretched out a strong lead and finished the day with a 2-1 moto score giving him the overall win. Dunegy was second with a 1-2 result followed by Stewart with his consistent 3-3 score. Jake Weimer and Mike Alessi rounded out the top five.

Australia’s Chad Reed put in his best performance of the 2013 season, finishing the day with an eighth place finish using a 9-7 moto scorecard aboard his TwoTwo Motorsports Honda. Fellow Aussie Michael Byrne was 18th overall on his BTO Sports/KTM.

Villopoto continues to lead the premier class points chase with a 42-point lead over Dungey followed by Barcia, Stewart and Trey Canard to round out the top five. Reed sits 15th in points while Byrne holds down the 22nd position.

GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac dominated the 250 class competition as he swept both motos of the day en route to his third overall victory of the season at Washougal.

The Colorado native found himself out front early in moto one and never looked back. Moto two saw him battle his way past series leader Ken Roczen and ride way for the overall.

Red Bull KTM’s Roczen suffered a bad start in moto one and forced his way through the pack in an impressive ride. Roczen finished his day with a pair of second place finishes for second overall on the day.

Rounding out the 250 Class podium was Roczen’s Red Bull KTM teammate Marvin Musquin. The French rider used a strong 3-4 moto scorecard to take the final podium position.

GEICO Honda’s Justin Bogle had a strong day at Washougal with a fourth overall with 4-6 scores and rookie Justin Hill rounded out the top five aboard his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawasaki with 5-7 moto results.

Defending series champion Blake Baggett suffered a DNF finish in moto one before taking an eighth place finish in moto two on his Monster Energy/Pro Circuit/Kawasaki. He finished 15th overall for the day.

Roczen leads Tomac by just one-point heading following the eighth round of the series. Musqin holds down third followed by Baggett and GEICO Honda’s Zach Osborne.
