Torres and Melero gear up for Madrid Red Bull X-Fighters round

With the fifth round of the 2013 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour ready to kick off in Madrid tomorrow on 19 July, Spanish riders Dany Torres and Maikel Melero put on a show for their home-country fans.

With the fifth round of the 2013 Red Bull X-Fighters World Tour ready to kick off in Madrid tomorrow on 19 July, Spanish riders Dany Torres and Maikel Melero put on a show for their home-country fans.

The riders warmed up for Friday’s competition with a series of jumps on the Route of Don Quixote in Campo de Criptana in front of the world-famous windmills 160 kilometres south of the Las Ventas bullring in Madrid.

Torres, the 2011 X-Fighters champion currently sits in third place in a gripping title battle this year, and his compatriot Melero currently sits 10th overall.

Torres is always on top of his game in Madrid, winning twice in 2009 and 2011, and was a close second in 2012 to New Zealand’s Levi Sherwood.

Torres won in Dubai this season, the top favorite to beat is World Tour leader Tom Pages of France. Melero has also had his career best performances in front of the frenzied home crowd in Madrid, taking third in 2012.

Australia’s Rob Adelberg, Josh Sheehan and Clinton Moore will also be in the thick of the Madrid action. Adelberg currently sitting second overall in points behind Thomas Pages.

Sheehan currently sits seventh overall in the series standings while Moore will make his first X-Fighters appearance on the 2013 schedule.

Madrid, the only stop Red Bull X-Fighters in Europe during this year’s six-event championship, is the biggest Freestyle Motocross event in the world and this year will mark the 12th consecutive year.
