Current Australian MX1 Motocross Champion Josh Coppins was reunited with the CDR Yamaha team this week in a private test at Queensland Moto Park on 18-19 June.

The New Zealand international, who retired at the close of 2012, confirmed he tested Billy Mackenzie’s 2013 YZ450F, however sources suggest he also completed an initial testing program aboard the brand new 2014 model YZ450F.

Coppins travelled to Australia earlier this week especially for the test, in which CDR Yamaha had its team staff and transporter at the popular South East Queensland complex.

And while the likable 36-year-old enjoyed his return back into the CDR Yamaha fold on testing duties, he was unable to comment on the 2014 model at this point and didn’t confirm whether he rode it at the test.

“It was nice to be back testing with Craig and the team,” Coppins said. “I’ve been working with the team this year and have ridden their current race bike here and there, so it’s been really good to continue our involvement together.”

Coppins’ New Zealand-based JCR Yamaha team shares development information with the CDR Yamaha team in regards to the YZ450F, as well as the GYTR Yamaha team with its NZ title-winning YZ250F.

Yamaha Motor Australia will officially introduce the 2014 YZ450F to the national media at Queensland Moto Park at the end of next month, with speculation mounting that the Victorian-based CDR team is planning to debut it before the MX Nationals season’s out.

Coppins confirmed he will attend the Hervey Bay round of the MX Nationals with the CDR Yamaha team on Sunday, 28 July – scheduled just days before the bike’s official Australian launch.

CDR Yamaha team owner Craig Dack and Yamaha Motor Australia motorsport manager Ray Howard were also unable to confirm whether Coppins completed laps aboard the 2014 model when contacted by MotoOnline.com.au this afternoon.
