Serco Yamaha crew chief Michael Marty has outlined the team’s initial development strategy for the all-new 2014 Yamaha YZ250F, unveiled yesterday in the US.

The all-new model will be released later this year in Australia, featuring a range of updates including a reverse-cylinder engine which features electronic fuel-injection, both never seen before on the Yamaha YZ250F.

Serco Yamaha has enjoyed great success with the current model YZ250F in recent seasons, currently sitting 1-2 in the MX2 category of the Australian Motocross Championship with Luke Styke and Luke Clout at the helm.

Although an official release date is yet to be announced by Yamaha Motor Australia, Marty is anticipating a smooth transition to the 2014 model and looks forward to the development process.

“First of all we’ve got to get the bike, we’re still a little way from having a bike,” Marty told MotoOnline.com.au. “As soon as we get one we’ll put it on the dyno and see how it stacks up to what we’re currently running and we’ll go from there.

“Fuel-injection is the way of the future and some of the other bikes have gotten a lot better with fuel-injection – I’m sure with the Yamaha it’s going to be the same.”

With the Australian Supercross Championship scheduled to commence in mid-September, just two weeks following the outdoor season finale, it’s undecided whether Serco will compete with the updated model.

“Unfortunately we’re not sure when the bikes are actually going to land in Australia, so at the moment we’re not sure which bikes we’ll be using,” he added. “It’s an all-new motor, an all-new chassis and I think we’ll be starting from scratch.

“The current model race bike has been very successful for us and while the 2014 model is exciting, until we have tested and developed it to be better than what we have, we are more than happy to continue with the 2013 model YZ250F.

“We still have a few to sell in the dealerships, and it’s our job to promote the sales of the 2013 model ,we are winning on it and when we finally do race the new model we are pretty sure it will be even better than what we have.”
